  53. SpaceNews originates at KD2BD in Wall Township, New Jersey, USA.  It is
  54. published every week and is made available for unlimited distribution.

  57. * DOVE STATUS *
  58. ===============
  59. Jim White, WD0E, reports that DOVE's voice synthesizer is undergoing tests.
  60. The satellite is now speaking the phrase "HI, this is DOVE in space" for one
  61. minute of every four minutes.  "HI" has been traditionally sent from Amateur
  62. satellites since OSCAR 1, so it seemed appropriate for this re-activation of
  63. the voice synthesizer in DO-17.  The team will continue to work on 
  64. improvements, including possibly raising the amplitude of the voice, which 
  65. is presently about half that of the telemetry.

  67. Software was completely reloaded last week.  The S-band beacon has been
  68. turned off.  Transmitter power will be optimized while maintaining a 
  69. positive power budget.  Reception reports are welcome (to PY2BJO).  
  70. Telemetry is not needed.

  79. LUSAT-OSCAR-19 is still not available for general use, and the BBS is not
  80. expected to be operational for the next few weeks.  Raw telemetry should be
  81. sent by packet radio to LU8DYF@LU8DYF.BA.ARG.SOAM or LU8DYF@ANY-ACTIVE-
  82. SATELLITE, or via the Internet to: lu8dyf@asarin.org.ar.  Certificates are
  83. available for those who forward telemetry reports.

  85. The LUSAT-1 recovery team wants to thank all stations who sent LUSAT-1
  86. telemetry data in RAW format, including:

  97. switched back ON.  A new MBL code was successfully loaded to test the 
  98. modified s/c configuration (secondary TX on).  Telemetry shows all the vital 
  99. parameters in nominal status.  Further tests will be carried out in the next 
  100. few days.  Also due to the very limited time budget of the command stations,
  101. please expect a few weeks before normal operations.

  128. in FO-20's onboard computer system.  The satellite's transponder will 
  129. remain in the analog mode (JA) until further notice.

  134. * DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION *

  136. Recent FCC rule changes have made both the originator of packet radio 
  137. bulletins as well as the control operator of the originating BBS legally
  138. responsible for the content of packet radio bulletins.  As a result, many
  139. bulletins entering the Amateur Packet Radio Network (AMPR) must be held
  140. for review by the BBS sysop before forwarding can begin.  The adoption of
  141. this new procedure will lead to delays in the distribution of SpaceNews 
  142. and other bulletins within the Amateur Packet Radio Network.

  144. In addition, recent routing changes have lead to local Internet mail 
  145. problems.  This is expected to produce distribution delays within the 
  146. packet network since the Internet is used as a SpaceNews distribution 
  147. backbone.

  252. I have a like new Az/El rotator for sale.  It is designed for light
  253. duty vhf/uhf antennas, such as an Oscar setup.  Comes ready to mount
  254. on a 1.5 inch (max) vertical mast and will accept up to a 1.5 inch
  255. horizontal mast such as the fiberglass unit from KLM.  Comes with a 
  256. control head for each rotor, and can be easily connected to a computer
  257. for automatic control (with minor modifications).
  258.  
  259. These units are capable of carrying a fair load.  I have had no problems
  260. turning a pair of KLM's (2M-14C/435-18C), even without balancing them.
  261. Rotation time is about 60 seconds AZ, 30 seconds EL (180 degrees).
  262. These units have never been outdoors either...only used inside.
  263.  
  264. I am offering two 75 foot lengths of new 5 conductor wire FREE with 
  265. the package.  Also, the unit can be controlled using a single 8 
  266. conductor rotor wire if desired.

  295. Dialing WWV to calibrate the PC system clock has shown that the error is too
  296. large to be able to track the low earth orbiting satellites without calibrating
  297. several times a week. This could get expensive since the call is long distance.

  299. Does anyone know of a plug-in board intended to take over the clock's time
  300. function with greater accuracy?

  302. The computer clock problem seems to be a common one (from comments heard on
  303. AO-13.) Any info on the subject would help.
